Week 3- May I Believe God for a Spouse?

Week 4 - May I Believe God for a Spouse?
We left off with the following:

"The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." Luke 18:27

Why are single people wanting so much to be married? Many married people see the single person as desperate for a spouse. Being single has its benefits as does being married. Different benefits for different stages of your life. The single must make sure to take advantage of the single phase of your life because once it's gone, it's gone for good, if you do it right.

This time we will see whether being single is the better way to live for the Lord.

I Corinthians 7:7 & 8
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

One day, I had a conversation with the Lord to the effect of apologizing for not desiring to take the more excellent way of life. That more excellent way would be single and devote my time totally to Him. The Lord quickly responded with a question for me, "Who said that single was the more excellent way?" So after I thought on it, I figured it was the scriptures from the Apostle Paul. Paul was persuaded that living single/celebate was the best way to live.

I was surprised and began to look into this. I found through searching that there was a group that renounced pleasure as an evil, regarded continence and resistance to passions as a virtue and they disdained marriage for themselves. That group died out about 70 AD.

Another group that is more recent in history was a religious group called the Shakers. So named by their bodily movements when they praised the Lord. This group believed they were living in the last days. And, they were. They too dispensed with marriage. Members of this sect died out as well. This group lasted for more than two centuries.

To have Christianity die out was not and is not God's plan for the church. Paul felt he was gifted to be able to live single and celebate. However, he also pointed out that it was not for everyone. So it would tell me that marriage is a good thing. Definately a part of God's plan for the Body of Christ.

If you want to be single and not married, it's a gift of God.
If you want to be married and not single, it's a gift of God.

Don't take offense to others that have a different view than yours. You continue to follow the plan of God for your life.
